Yesterday my Design 2 midterm project was due today. I think I did ok on it. I didn't get to take any pics of it yet. The teacher took it to grade. My project was based on 18 design concepts consisting of compositions made of lines and dots. Then I chose a theme of architecture with a emphasis on furniture design specifically mid century modern design.
During our presentations the fire alarm went off. I think someone didn't turn in their project on time and decided to try and avoid turning it in late.
Outside the cafeteria waiting for the alarm to turn off. Don't know if something happened or if it was a false alarm.
In preparation for our next Design 2 project we did some origami. We made a goldfish and some kind of flower but my flower didn't turn out to great unlike my goldfish.
In my materials class my first project turned out decent. We took plaster and made a box mold. From that we let the material dictate the design which was difficult for me to not let my design brain take over. Instead of describing the piece I will just show you.
Laser cutting the base of my sculpture.
Our next project is casting an object in bronze and making molds. After bringing in some objects that fit the size requirements, I will be casting lil homies. I practiced making molds out of rtv silicon. I made 2 casts at home so far. I am building an army of lil homies.
Oh I forgot to mention that before I made the molds and cast the lil homies in class we made molds with aginate and then cast with plaster to get used to the process. I made a cast of my left thumb.
We took a trip to Andevan Bronzeworks to get familiar with the brozne casting process. While there I happen to see a Tim Biskup figure made of clay that would be getting cast. I was tempted to steal it as he is one of my favorite illustrators but I was a good boy and left it alone.
Somehow Sr. Biskup found this image and asked me to remove it so that is why the picture is missing. Have to respect his wishes.
Here is a pic of the fire pit at Andevan. You know the fire is fucking hot when its green. Never seen that before.
I took a lil trip up to the Griffin Observatory. Its a pretty great view of LA. I can't wait to go back with my camera. Here is a iphone pic until then.
Here are two pics from some of my classes. The first is from Draw & Aim. I was very disappointed to know I am getting a C+ in the figure drawing section of the class. Hopefully I can do better in the perspective section of the class.
Brush pen sketches.
