WEEK 7/8

As it gets later into the term. Blog entries usually stack up. Its going into week 9 and its time to catch you up on weeks 7 and 8.

Monday the 1st of March. This was my sister's 29th birthday. After talking to her online I rushed off to school. Com design was more of the same nothing new to report other than I am pretty pleased on where my project is going.

Tuesday was printmaking with no progress on any projects.

Wednesday was AOR and more of the same as well. On the way home this lovely old man decided he wanted to hit my car. There wasn't much damage other than some rash on an already rashy rear bumper cover. No harm no foul. How old was he? I checked his driver's license and he was born in 1924!

Thursday night there was a lecture by Margo Chase in LAT. This term there have been a lot of lectures and that's a good thing!

Friday was Modernism and Packaging. I didn't have much to show for packaging but that's nothing new for this class.

Saturday Bryant and a friend of his came to town. I was going to go to printmaking but instead played host and showed them around LA. We first went over to Hollywood and drove down the blvd. The Oscar's were that Sunday so past Highland was blocked off. We drove down La Brea and then Wilshire. We ended up at Pink's. It's one of those classic LA staples that you must have at least once.

After that we headed over to Venice Beach and walked around before grabbing a beer. That weekend was the worst to come to LA since it had been raining. It wasn't to bad at the beach but after a while it started to get super windy and then the rain came. Walking to the car in the rain wasn't the best but it was nice to get out and brave the elements like I used to in jr. high.

After getting home Bryant and his friend ended up leaving. It was good seeing Bryant. I haven't seen him in a couple years. He's out in Las Vegas being a dad and husband.

Since I had wasted the day not doing any school work I thought hey why stop now. Jesse, Frank, Brett and I all went over to Lucky Baldwin's for dinner and drinks.

Sunday was work day spent mostly on com design. I did go over to school to take some pics of a gallery piece for a friend of Jesse.

Monday was the usual Big Picture Lecture Series, then Com Design then home.

Tuesday I woke up late and ended up getting to printmaking about 10 mins late. When I got to class Tony asked me if I had eaten breakfast to which I replied ,"No." When I asked why he didn't say anything. A little later someone else came to class late and he again asked the same question. After talking for a little while longer he then asked if someone knew where Shaker's was. The person he asked said no but then someone else said yes. To which Tony replied, "Ok lets all go there." Tony decided that we didn't need to work right away and that breakfast was more important. So he took us to Shaker's and treated us to breakfast.

After breakfast it was back to South Campus and work. Since I still didn't have my next project, 3 layer screen print, ready I went home and took a nap. After waking up it was time to get started on my AOR homework. It didn't take as long as I thought it would and I was able to get a decent night's rest.

AOR was pretty boring. Our teacher decided to play a video to which he prefaced that it would probably bomb. For some reason he thought playing a video on interviewing that happened to be in German with subtitles would be a good idea. No one was watching it. So when he came in decided that it was a waste of time and let us go early. However since he was doing individual crits I still had to stay longer for that. I hung out in the cafeteria with Bianca for a lil while before going back to class and then leaving for the day.

After class I headed over to Whittier Court House. I failed to receive a ticket in the mail and now I have to deal with going to court. No bueno!

After court I went home and started on packaging so that I could hit the laser lab before the 3x3 lecture. Once I got home I had to get crackin on Packaging. Since I had yet to make any 3D mock ups I had a lot of work to do. After getting things ready I got to work and was ready to go back to school.

Pre-lecture shenanigans

That night there was a 3x3 lecture at school on the business of design. These are usually pretty good and this was no exception.

When I got home from the lecture I had this waiting on my doorstep.

It was time to expand my digital storage. I bought two 1.5 tb segate drives and SATA to IDE adapters for my hard drive tower. I think I have around 7 tb of storage now. I am a digital hoarder and proud of it!

I also finally got a business card holder. I found one a couple years ago but never got around to buying it since my business cards are an odd size.

Thursday I headed off to school to do a little more laser cutting and stop off at CMTEL. I had gone in on Wednesday but Marshall wasn't there and the lab techs couldn't find what Marshall had shown me a couple weeks before.

IMG_2091

There are times when I cannot tell if Jesse is home or not. I woke up around 12 and then left. When I came home Jesse's door was still closed. I sent him a text and this was his response.

IMG_2092

Friday was a long day. I ended up being at school from about 8am to 8pm. In Modernism it never fails that I get sleepy. Watching slides in a dark room does not promote alertness. Because of this I guess I make faces. Anyways the teacher thought I was reacting to what she was showing and saying and asked me to share my thoughts. Luckily I can think on my feet and gave her a good response.

Since I had actually done a lot of work for packaging I was eager to show Dan my progress but not before I designed the outside since all I had was the inside. He liked my direction and wants me to combine my ideas. I don't know how that will look but we will see.

IMG_2100

After class I still couldn't go home. I had to head down to Costa Mesa to pick up some wheels. My tires are bald and I need new tires bad. I went to a couple places getting pricing on new tires and the consensus was that I needed to spend around $800 for new tires. Now you might ask why $800. The genius that owned my car before thought that 18" rims would be a good idea. I never liked the rims but not enough that I changed them out. Last time, which was the first time that I needed tires for my ride I was able to get them for a decent price. So changing out the rims wasn't going to be cheaper. However this time it was. After searching on this element owner's forum I found someone local that was cheap and exactly what I was looking for. A couple hours later and I have new rims and tires that are waiting to be mounted.

Saturday was printmaking day. I woke up about 9 and was at school by 10. I needed to coat and burn my screen. These were some pics taken throughout the day. I will let them speak for themselves.
