week 8

week 8

Saturday I took Joanne to the big sale at LA Eyeworks. That's where I got my latest set of spectacles from. Joanne had mentioned she had her current eye glasses for some time. So when the flyer for the sale came in the mail I knew she had to go. She ended up getting a nice pair of glasses for pretty cheap. We also had lunch at the Grove. I had never been there before and it was very nice. I also was able to find a gift for Emily's first birthday.

For Tuesday's Type 4 class I was working on a website all weekend. I hate coding and websites and flash even more. Miraculously I somehow was able to figure out with help from Jesse the site and got things working for the most part. Brad, my type teacher, was happy with the outcome.

Wednesday I decided to skip Archetype. Since I wasn't able to get the screen burned I didn't have anything ready. So sleep was in order! That gave me a lot of time to work on my interactive midterm.

In the evening I went over to Parkwood for Nico's Birthday dinner. Was a nice chill evening with the usuals for a pasta dinner.

Thursday was more of the same. Arcadia H.S. in the morning and finishing up interactive in the afternoon. That was another coding pain in the ass. Somehow after lots of trial and error and trouble shooting. I was able to get that working.

Friday I skipped imaging. I wasn't going to go because I didn't think I would have interactive done. However since I was able to finish it up on thursday I decided to go to class. However when the alarm started going off I couldn't bring myself to get out of bed. I didn't miss much since we had a substitute teacher. I slept in 'til around 11. Then it was up to get shit done. I went to South Campus and get some info so that I could start getting supplies for silkscreening. After a trip to get paint down in Commerce then to downtown to McLogan's I was ready to print. I still don't have the traffic mentality in my head yet. After looking at the trip time to Commerce, it was only a 20 min trip. I thought sure I can do that before I have class at 3:30. I left around 1:20. I was somehow able to get back to school by 3:00.

There was only one other person that made it to interactive. I guess a lot of people were having coding problems. Two other people ended up coming in late. Since no one was there. Ryan, our teacher looked at our projects and let us go early. We now have to rework a couple issues which is good but I thought I was finally done with this project.

Afterwords I went upstairs and hung out in the fishbowl with Dom and Joanne. Afterwords Dome came back to the house and we had some beers and pizza. Later I went to the Mentone Manor Monster Mash which was pretty chill.

Saturday I did a test print of my silkscreen, which if I say looks pretty dope. I can't wait 'til its completed. Only a couple more weeks and it will be done!

this week at ac

hmmm this week(7) wasn't super eventful.

Tuesday and Type 4 went well. We are working on screen based media (a website) this week. Time to turn my comps into a working site.

Wednesday at Archetype was proofing day. Here is a taste of what's to come soon.

Thursday at the high school was interesting. In the trailer classrooms where 2 of the 3 classes I TA for are located, the bells weren't working. There was another fire drill. However since the bells working working over there we instead had a lock down drill. Only we didn't know it was a drill until after the fact. This class is full of freshman. The teacher proceeded to act like it was a drill stating that we didn't know and still need to follow the rules. Some of the freshman started acting out as the teacher locked the door and turned off the lights. I can now see why a roving gun-child would start to take out these people first. Since I didn't know if it was a drill or not thoughts came into my head. Like taking the large stool next to me so that I could take out any wood-by gun-child trying to make it through the door. There is no way in hell some 15 year old is gonna take me out.

That evening I went into Archetype to work on my project some more. Joanne was working in there as well. Lizee called me and I told her to come hang out with us. Afterwords we went and got some grub. We went to Sala Thai. Their food is always bomb.

Friday was relaxing. Imaging was pretty laid back and got out super early. Then I came home and did a lil work before taking a nap. I then skipped out on Interactive. Midterm for that class is due next week and I need to get cracking on that.

Tomorrow I am going shopping down on Melrose. Hopefully I will have some kind of story to share with you next week. 'Til next time

week 6 I think?

Monday was a holiday. It was nice to have an extra day off. I can't recall what I did so it must have not been anything exciting.

Tuesday was Type and it went well. I am really digging this project. Here is a little taste of what's going on.

Archetype was in full effect on Wednesday. In the morning during class I set Mexico City and in the evening I finished all of the poem. Jesse and I went down around 11:30 to South Campus. Paperwork wasn't right and we almost weren't able to get into Archetype Press. Here are some more sneak peaks.

Thursday was a pretty eventful day. On the way To Arcadia HS I saw a pop-up smog check. I haven't seen one of those in a long time. I wonder if there is a big issue with fixed up imports in the area.

When I was at the high school they had a fire drill. Which sucked also it didn't help that it had been raining that week so I was dressed for cold weather. Of course by the time we went out to the football field it was summer weather.

Later in the day I went into Achetype Press to get some info so that I can get my screen ready. Joanne happen to be working in the lab. When she was done we went out to dinner at Mi Piace. I had the Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo. It was bomb but so has everything else I have had there.

Friday night after class Joanne and I went and saw Where the Wild Things Are. It's such a great movie. Make sure to catch it in theaters.

Oh I almost forgot to mention. I decided to drop Com Design 4. I struggled with the decision but I think it was the right one. It's a huge relief to not have that class any longer. Now it's time to step it up in Type 4.

end of week 5

Time is flying by I just wish Com Design was. I am really not feeling this class.

On Monday when I got home from class I was pleasently surprised with a box waiting on my doorstep. I wasn't expecting anything so I couldn't figure out what it was. Then once I opened it I had remembered the paper swatches I ordered during the break. Arjo-Wiggins paper to be exact. Their Curious Collections paper is pretty cool.

Archetype is by far my favorite class this term. My next project is a group book. We each have our own spread. The theme of the book is the moon. I am doing my spread based on an Aztec myth poem about how they built Mexico City on the Lake of the Moon. I was surprised my teacher selected the idea she did. Out of the three I felt it was the most graphic and least letter pressy concept. However it was the idea I was most excited about since it is so graphic. Here is just a tease of the concept especially since this is the first rough. So it should end up being a bit different in the end. The black will be silk screened.

Alexis brought in Tarot Cards and most everyone in the class had their cards read even Gloria.

Swastikas that I found in Archetype. To think of what these have seen in their life. Gloria said they were indeed from Germany.

Joanne came over on Wednesday to get some help with her packaging class. We had to learn how to play this game she is redesigning the packaging for. It's called Thurn and Taxis. A game from Germany based on postal routes. Kind of like Risk but about mail. Anyways I won because I am the best.

Thursday was my second time going to Arcadia H.S. This time my schedule is finalized. My first class is a Design 1 and then my next two classes are photography classes. The teachers are quite different. I have a feeling I am going to really enjoy helping out in the photo class.

Today I met up with Jimmy, Chris and Jimmy's friend who I can't recall his name at the moment down in Newport Beach. Pretty nice area and it was nice to get away from Pasadena and homework for a couple hours. We got some lunch and played some pool. It was good times.
