Week 8-9

Sunday nigh I picked up Frank and Brett from the airport. I got to see a lot of fireworks on the way. I didn't think I would get to see any this year since I was doing homework all day. I did get to hear some in Pasadena. Just when I was about to go to sleep I decided to get in a ride on my new bike. It was great to go for a late night ride. I can't wait for break when I have some free time to get some time to roam around.

Encounter at LAX. I have always seen this thing but seeing it in its surroundings is weird.

AGS on Monday was better than the week before but I am still struggling in this class. I don't know why. I believe I have all the pieces to put together something good. I just can't seem to get over that hurdle. After class I took a nap and woke up and went to AIGA mentorship night.

Tuesday's Font Design class I got a lot done. The font is looking good. Can't wait until it's done.

Wednesday's Info class went well. My project is starting to build steam. Should be interesting as to where it ends up. Business 101 wasn't anything special.

Thursday I just worked from home. Scott was flying in for the weekend from New York. He will be coming back to school next term after being in Europe studying at GRA. Eric was picking him up from the airport. Scott, Eric and Victoria came over and hung out for a while.

Friday's editorial class went well I got some good feedback and the photos I received from Claudia are amazing. Can't wait to get the rest of them. Scott came to class and afterwards him and Eric came over to the house to hang out until dinner time. We were all going out to eat. We ended up at Daisy Mint only after Frank and Brett went to our first choice, only to find that it had closed down.

It was a big group of us tonight. Jesse, Eric, Frank, Brett, Scott, Josh, Cali, Victoria and Roy were all in attendance. It took a while before we could get seated. We hung outside while we waited. After dinner everyone came back to our place and we hung out for most of the night.

Saturday I pretty much worked all day into Sunday. For some reason Sunday night is bike ride night. I went on another bike ride.

Monday's AGS was like the ones before it. After class I went out to lunch with Scott, Eric, Miguel, Andrea and Ivan. We went to Mi Piace. The food was good but the service was soooooo slow. I have been there a handful of times and its always been decently fast. However today is was super slow. Maybe because it was Summer and it was a Monday during lunch but our lunch lasted about two and a half hours. After lunch I went home and passed out. I didn't make it to AIGA Mentorship Night. I instead stayed home and worked.

I decided since I hadn't missed any classes yet that I should take Tuesday off. I worked on getting my stuff together since Wednesday was Scholarship Review.

Wednesday I felt like I should not go to school but I did anyways. I was super tired from working all day Tuesday. I was able to get my stuff set up at South Campus. I then headed back home and took a nap. I woke up with enough time to go to school and get some work done for Info. I had a short meeting with Sean and then was back down to South Campus to pick up my stuff. After that I headed back home. I contemplated not going to class since I was super tired and didn't have my homework done for Business 101. I fought that and got to work quickly doing my homework in about 15 minutes before leaving and getting to class at 7. Class was actually fun today. Petrula put us into groups according to our game pieces. At the beginning of this part of the class Petrula asked us to select a Monopoly game piece, she uses that to assign work Anyways in our groups we had to answer some questions in order to get money. Some groups didn't know all the answers and that gave other groups the chance to steal their money. After class I headed home and was able to relax from a long day. By relaxing I mean homework. I got started right away on what Petrula assigned us for next week. I fixed my resume, wrote a couple cover letters and did some Quicken stuff.

IMG_0078

That spilled over into Thursday but I didn't do too much and relaxed since it was super hot.

IMG_0079

The heat wave continued throughout the weekend. Friday I decided to skip Editorial even though I was working on it pretty much all day.

Since it was super hot on Saturday I just couldn't work and tried to beat the heat.

Sunday I woke up and got right to work. I need to get over this hump in AGS. Send good vibes my way please.

WEEK 7

What a busy week!

Monday's AGS was better than last but not by much. At the end of class clive showed his top 11 opening and closing credits. There was some pretty cool stuff. I decided to stay for the second half of the class to see what they were doing. After class I went over to the student store to finally get a new mouse. I decided on getting an Apple mighty mouse despite my intuitions against it. So far it's working out good. After that I went home and took a nice nap.

When I woke up it was time to head over to school for mentorship night. Frank was gone and it was just the usuals that showed up.

Tuesday's font design went well and I got a lot done in class.

Wednesday I woke up early so that I could get my info design homework done. I then realized that instead of having to be at class at 2 I didn't have to be there until 4:30 since it was individual crits today. I wish I would have slept in. Anyways that gave me time to meet with Claudia to talk about the photos she is shooting for my editorial project. Photos look amazing and I can't wait to start using them in my layouts.

Info design went well and Sean likes the direction my project is going in. There was a lecture in Business and class flew by. After class I went home and started putting my things together. Tonight I was going down to San Diego for the weekend. I was able to get on the road fairly soon after getting home from school. I was down in SD by 12:30. After getting some tasty Mexican food it was time to hit the sack.

When I stay in SD I sleep on my sister's bed at my mom's house. Her bed isn't too comfortable and I always end up waking up earlier than I would like. Thursday I woke up and went over to PB to get my car's alignment done. I have been going to Beeline since my first car. Today they were able to get me out of there pretty quick. I went back to the house to chill out for a bit. Tonight I was going to head down to TJ with Cristina and Gabe. We were going to Tacos Salceado to get our grub on. We got down to TJ around 6 and made it back to the US by 8. Our trip was quick but good. After getting back I dropped off Cristina before going back down to Gabe's place.

Friday morning I woke up and called my brothers in Texas. After talking to them for a bit I called my Dad. We ended up going out to lunch at Venice. After that I headed over to PB and bought myself a beach cruiser. I had been wanting to get a bike for a while now and finally pulled the trigger. From there I went over to Jeff's house. I was supposed to meet up with him for a while to give him my old zip drive and finally was able to do it. We talked for a good bit before I had to take off. I was then going over to Bryan and Ana's place to hang out. We ended up walking over to this bar by their place. It was a cool neighborhood bar and the food there was very good. The same location used to be this Mexican food spot that was really good. I think its got good food mojo going on over there. Cristina joined us shortly after we had gotten there. After some food and a couple drinks we headed back to their place.

Saturday was the reason I went to SD in the first place. It was CJ's 30th birthday party. But before that was Soupy's 5th birthday party. I arrived around 2 for the pre-party party. The weather in SD was awesome. Mid 70's sunny with a slight breeze. God how I miss that weather! The usuals were at the party. Big Randy had the bbq going. Of course there was a pinnate that took forever to break. I ended up leaving around 5 so that I could go home and get some rest before the next party.

After a quick nap it was time to head down the street to K and B. This place has opened up since I left down the street in Del Cero. The selection of beer and wine is amazing. Never seen anything like it. The party was being held in their back room. Most everyone from the first party was there. Beer and wine was flowing and a good time was had by all. The UFC fight was playing in the front. So when time came for the might fight most of headed out to the the brawl. I wasn't impressed with the fight. What I was impressed with was how Brock won, by submission. Anways we closed out the place and I had a great time.

Sunday I woke up at 8 so that I could get on the road early. Miguel was down in TJ and hitched a ride back with me. After a lunch stop we were back in LA by 1:30. After a nice nap I was in homework mode for AGS on Monday.

WEEK 6

Monday was definitely better than the week before. I still have a lot of work to do. Monday after class can you guess what I did? Thats right nap. After I woke up from my nap I got ready and went to school for the mentorship study night. There were a couple new faces mixed in with the usuals.

Attack of the Vuvuzela!

Chesley who I had for Type 3 was in covering for Leah and Tuesday's Font Design class. I think I accomplished a lot with his help. Hopefully Leah will think the same.

IMG_0003
It's not abnormal to walk into an 8am class to see this.

Wednesday Jesse and I went out to grab lunch before I had class. Nothing fancy just some Chipotle. After that I went over to Kinko's to get a print done for info design. Info Design today was like the other a couple in class exercises which were interesting. Tonight's Business 101 was the first class since the change over. The first part of the class was taught by Errol Gerson, who taught us basic business. Now it's being taught by Petrula Vrontikis who will be teaching us business from a graphic designer's viewpoint. However tonight we were having a 3x3 lecture in place of class. The designers speaking tonight were Art Center's own Sean Adams with Tom Devine and Terry Lee Stone. The talk was interesting with a full house to boot. After the lecture we were supposed to go to the black boar but no one showed besides Frank, Eric, Jesse and I. Instead we went over to this pizza place across the street. Brett ended up joining us. Dinner was pretty good and cheap!

Thursday I decided to take the day off. Tony the printmaking genius had told me about an Aztec exhibition going on at the Getty Villa. He told me about it during last term and I was never able to make it out there during the break. Since it was going to be closing next week, I just had to make it out there. Esmelda joined me on the trip out to Malibu.

The Getty Villa is beautiful and if you haven't been there you must go. The main exhibition was on the greeks and romans. The exhibition was nice but I was there for the Aztec stuff. I still took lots of pics as you can imagine.

I was a little pissed that when I got to the Aztec exhibition that it was not as large as the Greek and Roman stuff and I wasn't able to take photos. I did buy the exhibition catalog. Anyways the Aztec exhibition was awesome. The prints and books were amazing. I want to go to Mexico and scavenger for old books. By the time we finished looking at all the stuff and buying books in the gift shop it was time to leave. The museum closes at 5 and they couldn't wait to kick us out.

All I was able to get.

From there we stopped at got a bite to eat at Duke which was on the coast. I don't know why I didn't take any pics probably because I was mesmerized by it. I could stare at the ocean for hours. After dinner it was time to head back to the real world.

Friday morning I woke up bright and early to get my editorial homework done. I had till 4:20 since we had individual crits. I have to say that today was the most helpful class of the term. After class Eric, Frank and Roy came over to the pad for some drinks. Then we all went out to dinner at the Counter. This place is hidden in Pasadena and has some delicious burgers. My carne asada burger was bomb and some of the best carne I have had.

After dinner it was back to the house for more drinks. Z stopped by too. The couch has some kind of voodoo over it because almost anyone who sits on it falls asleep. Not only did Eric fall asleep but Z did too.

IMG_0032

Saturday was a pretty laid back day. Frank came over in the afternoon so that we could do some group homework together. After that we went and got some frozen yogurt at Cherry on Top. That was pretty much my Saturday.

Sunday I woke up and was pretty lazy all day. In the evening I took a friend to the Burbank Airport. After that I went home and got started on homework for AGS in the morning.
