However my new commitment is to post an update every friday, however small it may be. So with this first Friday, my first update.
Lets finish off with the break. Last couple days of the break I went down to San Diego. I swear going down is like work. I have to schedule seeing friends which is not cool since I can't enjoy myself as much as I could if I didn't have to worry what time it was. Even so I had a great time down in SD. I saw friends and their kids. Went to birthday parties and even made a stop down in tijuana.
Caiden's First Birthday. He was in a sugar coma as you can see.
From the first trip home during break. Riel's second birthday.
School is already going into week three! It should be a good semester but it's starting off rough due to all the research some classes require. Here is my class load for this term.
Comm Design 4
Course description and learning outcome: Developing a graphic voice for client or message. Consistency of voice through different media/contexts. Importance of design as editing (research, content forms) and designer as author of content. May involve branding. More complex problems than CD 1, 2, 3. Media agnostic. Opens up to communicating solutions in print, packaging, motion, interactive, environmental, 3D. Project types: Longer more in depth projects, 1 or 2 per term. Possibility of student-generated projects aligned to their individual interests or in collaboration with work in another class. Maybe all students work on a different project. ie. A theme is given but they must develop/generate content themselves.
Type 4
Type 4: Transmedia deals the necessity of communication programs to operate seamlessly in different contexts and materials, and the need for design students to understand the specific technical and communicative criteria that apply in these changing environments. In the class students tackle design problems that require the development of solutions in three different media: a traditional ink on paper print component; a screen-based online web component; and a 3D environmental/display component. Solutions are predominantly typographically driven. For example, a typical project might involve the design of a typographic wordmark/logotype for an event or exhibition, together with poster/invite/brochure, an accompanying website and/or motion piece, as well as a larger scale environmental translation of the design elements involving expanded content and materials
Archetype Press
This course gives students hands-on experience with metal foundry and wood type.
Imaging 2
This class allows students to move past the beginning stages of Photoshop and to start to become a power users. Students will learn to work more efficiently and speak the language of Photoshop. After this class, photographic creativity should not suffer due to insufficient technical knowledge. Compositing and retouching should be seamless. Learn the digital darkroom and beyond.
Interactive Design 1 3:30-6:30 Rm 142
This class introduces the basic of HTML (the basic language of the Web), flow-charting, and image compression. It includes basics of editors, behaviors, and CSS (cascading style sheets) for text control and positioning. The class will also focus on developing a fully interactive, animated Web site.
I can't believe I am already in my third term. School is flying by. It's been 9 months now since I have been living here in Los Angeles. It's weird when I go back to San Diego, its like time is standing still. It's not like I do all that much up here during school.
Thats about it for now. Here are some more pics.
If you weren't aware there was a huge fire up here. This was taken 3 blocks from my place.
Jesse with his buddy at Moca.
The girls eating all our food.
After a night out at Jumbo's.
Border wait getting into Mexico, where I happened to get sent to secondary for the second consecutive time. What gives?
Bomb-ass hotdog at the Swiss Basement in Tijuana.
Angels v Whitesox game. Fuck the Dodgers so unless the Padres are playing up here Angels it is!
Type stick. I was setting 24 pt Light Lining Gothic for my first Archetype project. Stay tuned...
An array of work samples from past Archetype classes.
There are a couple goals I have made for myself since starting Art Center. One of them was taking a TDS Design Matters class. I did that last term. This term it's time to give back and get involved with the high school mentorship program.
Oh and Joanne just reminded me of this bomb-ass taco spot in Whittier she took Jesse and I to. I have to give it to her. This place was good. Best spot I have been to yet. Still doesn't compare to the spot in Tj though. Sorry no pics from there. Top Secret spot ya know.
